Härkila Footwear Comparison & Buying Guide

Härkila waterproof country footwear for demanding terrain

Härkila footwear buying guide

Choose the right Härkila boots for your terrain

Compare Härkila walking shoes, GORE-TEX boots, hunting footwear and wellingtons by height, support, weight, fastening and intended use.

Quick answer

Choose the Wildwood GTX for lightweight everyday use, the Reidmar Mid GTX for versatile leather performance and fast U-Turn fastening, the Saxnäs GTX for stiffer support on rough ground, or the Pro Hunter Ledge GTX for the most demanding regular field use. For extreme winter conditions, move up to the tall insulated Visent 2.0 GTX.

Start with how you will use them

The best Härkila footwear is not simply the most expensive model. Match the height, sole stiffness and upper material to the distance, terrain and weather you actually face.

Low shoes or mid-height boots?

Choose the Trail Lace GTX or Reidmar Low GTX when freedom of movement, lower weight and warmer-weather comfort matter most. Move to the Wildwood GTX, Reidmar Mid GTX or Saxnäs GTX for greater ankle protection and support over rougher ground.

Cordura or leather?

Cordura models such as the Wildwood GTX dry quickly, breathe well and require less maintenance. Leather models such as the Reidmar, Saxnäs and Pro Hunter Ledge give a more structured feel and strong long-term protection, but benefit from regular cleaning and conditioning.

Specialist choices

These models solve more specific problems than a conventional leather walking boot.

Härkila footwear questions

Which Härkila boot is the best all-rounder?

The Reidmar Mid 2.0 GTX is the strongest all-round choice when you want leather durability, waterproof protection, reliable grip and quick U-Turn adjustment. For a lighter and lower-maintenance alternative, choose the Wildwood GTX.

Which model is best for difficult terrain?

The Saxnäs GTX has a stiffer sole for additional support on uneven and rocky ground. The Pro Hunter Ledge 2.0 GTX adds a full protective rand and is better suited to frequent hard field use.

What is Härkila U-Turn fastening?

The U-Turn system on the Reidmar Low and Reidmar Mid uses a wire and dial instead of conventional laces. It allows quick, even tightening and easy adjustment without repeatedly tying and untying the boot.

Are Härkila GTX boots waterproof?

The GTX models compared here use a waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX membrane. Waterproofing still depends on the membrane remaining below the top of the boot, so choose sufficient height for deep vegetation, standing water or snow.

How should Härkila footwear fit?

Allow enough toe room for walking and the socks you normally wear, while keeping the heel secure. The Reidmar Mid and Pro Hunter Ledge use a standard-width last; the women’s Wildwood 2.0 GTX has a women-specific last. If you are between sizes or use thick winter socks, compare the fit before removing labels or wearing outdoors.

Protect the boots after purchase

Clean off mud before it dries, allow footwear to dry naturally away from direct heat, and use care suited to the upper material. See Härkila Rubber Care for the Forester Wellington and the Härkila hardwood boot jack for easier removal.
